Our verdict
Bill Elliott's NASCAR Challenge is a curiosity for racing fans.
Bill Elliott’s NASCAR Challenge is a 1991 racing sim from Distinctive Software, published by Konami for DOS, the Amiga, the Mac and the NES. It was the first game with an official NASCAR licence, and the first PC game to feature a real NASCAR driver.
Gameplay
The game simulates the NASCAR Winston Cup from the driver’s seat:
- Cars: Pontiac Grand Prix, Ford Thunderbird or Chevrolet Lumina.
- Tracks: Eight real tracks, including Talladega and Watkins Glen.
- Races: From 10 to 500 miles.
- Setup: Car setup and damage settings on DOS.
- Replays: Instant replay on DOS and Amiga.
It was an early, solid attempt at a realistic NASCAR sim, later overshadowed by Papyrus’s NASCAR Racing.
Verdict
Bill Elliott’s NASCAR Challenge is a solid early NASCAR sim. It’s dated, but historically important.
