Our verdict
Dragons of Flame is a curiosity for Dragonlance fans more than RPG fans.
Dragons of Flame is the sequel to Heroes of the Lance, based on the Dragonlance novels. It’s an arcade-oriented game with RPG elements, in which your party of heroes continues the fight against the Dragonarmies.
Gameplay
The game mixes two styles:
- Overland travel: Move your party across a top-down map.
- Side-view combat: Battles switch to side-scrolling action.
- Dragonlance heroes: Play as characters from the novels.
It’s more varied than its predecessor thanks to the overland map.
Verdict
Dragons of Flame improves on Heroes of the Lance with more freedom, but its combat is still clumsy. It’s mainly for Dragonlance fans.
The Good
- Dragonlance setting and heroes
- Overland map adds freedom
- Mix of action and RPG
The Bad
- Clumsy combat
- Thin RPG elements
- Dated controls
