Our verdict
21 Gewinnt is a small distraction at best, but it captures the simple charm of early German shareware.
21 Gewinnt is a German shareware gambling game based on the rules of Blackjack, but played with dice instead of cards. You throw two dice at a time and try to get as close to 21 as possible without going over.
Gameplay
The rules are simple:
- Throwing dice: Roll two dice and add their values to your total.
- Stick or continue: After each throw, decide whether to roll again or let your opponent try their luck.
- Winning: Win by reaching 21, by having the computer bust, or by ending closer to 21.
- Two players: The registered version lets you play against a friend.
It’s quick to learn and quick to play, but there’s not much depth beyond luck and a few simple decisions.
Verdict
21 Gewinnt is a simple dice game that works for a few quick rounds. Its presentation is basic and it offers little depth, so it’s best seen as a small piece of shareware history.
The Good

- Quick rounds
- Two-player mode in the registered version
The Bad
